Free Nonprofit Burnout Prevention Kit

Hey fellow changemaker, if you’re worried you might be on the road to burnout (or deep in it) and you:

  • Are frustrated with regularly feeling overwhelmed, distracted, and exhausted.

  • Struggle with finding the time, energy, or motivation to take care of yourself.

  • Feel guilty when you prioritize caring for yourself instead of others.

  • Are being hard on yourself because you feel like you’re you’re just going through the motions at a job you used to love.

  • Feel too stressed and distracted to be present with family or enjoy the creative hobbies you used to get excited about.

  • Have tried so many things – like meditation apps, getting more sleep, doing yoga, and taking more PTO, and you are not sure how to feel better…

You are not alone, and it’s not you’re fault

Burnout has systemic causes, like captitalism and grind culture, and most of us never had the managing stress and emotions class in school.

I created this free Nonprofit Burnout Prevention Kit because I know how it feels to burn out doing social justice work, and I’m committed to sharing proven techniques to prevent and heal burnout—because collective change starts with inner change.

How to tell if you’re burned out

We can’t change what we can’t see. And many people (including a previous version of myself) don’t realize that they are burned out.

Here’s a very helpful excerpt from the brilliant book Mindful Self-Compassion for Burnout: Tools to Help You Heal and Recharge When You’re Wrung Out by Stress by Kristin Neff, PhD and Christopher Germer, PhD.

To determine whether you’re currently experiencing burnout, ask yourself the following questions:

☐ Are you less motivated to do your work?

☐ Are you always stressed and feel like you never get a break?

☐ Do you find yourself becoming impatient or irritable?

☐ Are you less productive, or does it feel that way?

☐ Do you have difficulty concentrating?

☐ Do you feel hopeless or overwhelmed?

☐ Is work stress spilling into your personal relationships?

☐ Do you just want to be left alone?

☐ Are you starting to use food, alcohol, or drugs to numb the stress you feel?

☐ Is your work affecting your sleep or your sex life?

☐ Are you becoming anxious or depressed about your work?

☐ Are you developing physical problems, like headaches or stomach problems?

Did you answer yes to four or five of these questions? Consider seeing a medical professional and exploring therapy or coaching if that’s available to you. I know it’s not easy to ask for help, and I find that leaning into the support of your community is key.

If these symptoms hit too close to home, the good news is that it’s 100% possible to recover from stress and burnout, and you have all the resources you need to support yourself. You are already whole and enough exactly as you are.

Burnout is not

  1. Your fault

  2. Who you are forever

  3. Something to dismiss (it’s life-threatening) or go at alone

The good news

While stressors are inevitable and there’s no quick fix solution to burnout, you can take charge of managing the stress itself, and it’s easier and less time-consuming than you might think.

Preventing and recovering nonprofit burnout is 100% possible, and I’d love to help you get your energy back through the power of mindfulness coaching and meditation.

Practicing the techniques in this kit can allow you to:

  • Gain mindfulness tools that help you release stress and anxiety in the moment - even when you feel like you have no time or energy.

  • Learn fresh strategies for regulating emotions and cultivating inner calm, no matter how chaotic and exhausting the outside world is.

  • Dive right into experimenting with a 12 Days of Peace Meditation Plan, so you don’t have to figure it out on your own.
